Right to Know

The Pennsylvania Right to Know Act, also known as the Pennsylvania Sunshine Law, is a series of laws designed to guarantee that the public has access to public records of governmental bodies in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Sunshine Act legislates the methods by which public meetings are conducted.

How to File an Appeal

If an agency denies a record, or a portion of a record, the requester has a right to file an appeal with the Office of Open Records.

The requester must submit the appeal to the Office of Open Records within 15 business days of the mailing date of the agency's response. Please send appeals to the Office of Open Records, 333 Market Street, 16th Floor, and Harrisburg, PA 17101-2234. The requester may also submit the appeal via facsimile to (717) 425-5343 or via email as a Microsoft Word or PDF attachment.
